Suzi Minor The Songs of Summer

The Songs of Summer

Waves of sage brush bristle against the sun
While the lonely lizard traces its shadow across the sand

The cicadas are humming their tune
Listen close to the songs of summer

Across the land, heat rises to a crescendo
While the fireflies spark light in the forest cool
Gray tree frogs join in the chorus
Listen close to the songs of summer

Wind whipped white caps tip the ocean
Surging the surf to slurp up the shore
Seagulls in flight call out to their loves
Listen close to the songs of summer

Late afternoon thunder bowls over the range
Pouring out a vengeance of pent-up emotion
Splattering relief upon the baked desert
Listen close to the songs of summer

Reveling in the play of the season
Children chuckle at summer’s folly
While picnics of laughter play to our youth
Listen close to the songs of summer
